in the baptism of fire

we speak of trials
struggles, chastening us
in terms of meaning
in the baptism of fire
yet we forget the power
the deeper, holy meaning
each baptism of water
filled with the Holy Spirit
each a baptism of fire
purifying us, redeemed
filled with kingdom power
to go into the world
