“Day of Fire”, yes, really,
that is what the white
lettering
on his black t-shirt said
I don’t know what the maker
meant
for me to see in those words
But, here in church,
I see the birth of the
church, Pentecost
a day of fire, of flames
changing
the history of the world
a birthday, a moment, flames
commissioning timid
followers
into bold disciples,
missionaries
charged to save each human
soul
across the face of the
globe, across
the sands of time, forever
Good News spread like a
brush fire
through the centuries after
that
a singular Day of Fire,
indeed
