in the sunlight’s dying
falling toward the horizon
shadows before the night
adding dimension, form
something of the mystery
not in the visible, the static
the physical world, alone
something wondrous, beyond
in the shadows, the hidden shapes,
elongated at morning, at dusk,
whispers of the infinite
defying our comprehension
to stop and linger, to touch
to look more deeply in shadows
beckoning us further, to linger
to touch imagination
we people of dust
to think beyond the tactile
that which we can touch
in the shadows a chance
to glimpse eternity
