A clear and present danger – v2

They constitute a challenge

a clear and present danger

to our people, to our nation

demagogues spewing

a cascade of lies, bile,

no hope for stopping

the polarized language

the torrent of fear, of filth,

and hate overflowing

catching all in the maelstrom

the feared pitch

Raising the ante, the temperature,

with any who doubt, who we speak out

who cast aspersions

who question the lies

The end as in the past

when we did not stop the tyrants

the bullies on the playground

those sitting at the committee rostrum

or standing at the gate to the citadels

our places of learning

They are a clear and present danger

to all of our people

that will not end

until we defy the bullies
