How can we live out His command
following His example
how He lived here with us;
Yet it is to us, this charge
this commission to go as His disciples
His friends, the sheep of His flock,
out into God’s world
Christ’s
command to us
not
that we love one another
something different, pay attention;
Not
this alone, by half, more,
though
it would be
hard
enough itself
A
new commandment He gave to us
our
command of our Savior
on
the night before His sacrifice
at
that moment, just as He is choosing
to
become the Lamb
to
be offered on the altar of the cross
To
love one another
as
He first loved us
giving
Himself, His body, over
pouring
out His life’s blood
paying
the ultimate cost,
Climbing
our cross
Giving
His own life
not
needing any other;
Choosing
to be the Servant
to
be our Sacrifice of Love
reconciling
the whole world
so
that we may see God
