how long do I still have to endure this – v2

how long do I still have to endure this
the pain of separation, this anguish,
the torture of being adrift
not with my family, no income,
struggling with my demons
with my identity
I sometimes ask
am I even a man
searching for solid ground
for a compass, a way,
for real meaning
outside of our comfort
defined by separation
at times set apart, islands,
a time in the wilderness, struggle,
holding on for dear life
