The bloom almost ready
the petals yet to unfurl
The crocus, cobalt, nascent
up through the soil
The leaves at the foundation
where they bloomed last year
and died so gloriously
each in their season,
a place for them
in the circle of life

A Dying Bloom
Nestled, sheltered
against the warm brick
the foundation of the church
the dying bloom of the now lavender crocus
Unfurled petals, like
translucent rice paper tissue
bent and splayed open
a crescendo before the dying
the orange within
dying with grace
in the bright mid-morning light
