By their practices,
by their rules,
earthly holiness alone
forgetting God’s love
That which is written down
not the meaning, the power
the gifts between the words
human understanding not enough
Christ revealing, in this story,
God’s love greater
than an article of faith
going beyond, ever, much deeper
offering us life
if we but take his hand
