cutting open the waters

the sky, the dome
the waters above
the Spirit poured down
from heaven, above
through a gash, a tear
a rip in the heavens
shimmering light
shining in love
a dove, the Spirit
landing on the Christ-child
giving himself up
yet rising from the waters
anointed by God’s word
sent into the world
