wrapped in a cross

God’s work not without pain
the law still needed a sacrifice
we have disobeyed our God
we had mocked his holy Word

God entered creation
in that babe in the manger
made weak, a humble child
to walk upon the earth

At the appointed hour
going to the Jordan
becoming baptized by God
sent into the wilderness

Christ took up the mantle
continuing what John had begun
preaching the good news of repentance
of God’s kingdom come near

Healing the sick, the broken
forgiving human sin
teaching us how to love
the example deep within

At the appointed hour
turning his face to Jerusalem
entering as a king, hosannas,
before the clouds engulfed him

God became sin
the priest the unblemished Lamb
our hands upon him, all of us
transferring our sin to him

At the appointed hour
God climbed the cross
sacrificing his life for us
giving us our liberty

God’s gift of redemption
of reconciliation of all life
wrapped in the cross of Jesus
and in the empty tomb of Easter

Stop right now and praise God
for this immeasurable gift
life though we are yet unworthy
how awesome that truly is!
