washing their dirty feet

bending down at the table

removing his robe, gathering a towel

a basin of water, touching,

washing their dirty feet

the Messiah become the servant

the Master humble, an example

able then to share the words

a new commandment for them

to love each other as he loved them

to wash each other’s feet
