For a few moments, aware,
on the side of the house
the main thing I was doing
wasn’t painting, not even
scraping.
I was disturbing the
spiders,
big fat spiders, the
residents
of the wall, over the aged, peeling
paint
They hovered expectantly waiting
for prey
protecting their egg sacks,
their children,
and I was the intruder into
their world,
not the other way around.
