The necks of the ferns
the fiddleheads opening
like the wings of
butterflies
blood making them rigid
the ferns unfurling
like massive sails of the
undergrowth
warming even without
sunlight
filtered in the mist of the
morning
a blanket in the forest
green an endless sight
the heads opening
like a mystery revealing
exposing the fronds
the elegant fingers
coming into view
in this new season
