Long ago, long ago
the green metal of the
statue
in the nearby park
was a man in faraway lands,
living flesh of our nation’s
best
sent into harm’s way
fighting in San Juan, in
Manila,
forgotten fields of a little
war
frozen in the park
so we would remember
