I have heard whispers
I have felt the stares
the comments on the street
in the hallways
seeing me as different
something to be changed.
I don’t really care
it doesn’t help me
the pain remains
from your words
your harsh judgment
falling on me.
You could dip it in chocolate
add bright sprinkles
call it what every you like
the expression no comfort
you don’t understand
because it is not directed at you.
To me, to my ears,
“Love the sinner, hate the sin.”,
is calling me sin;
Your judgment upon me,
like in verbal assault
how the victim hears it.
Your words cutting
into my flesh, my spirit.
however you package it;
the harm remains
I am who I am
whatever your name.
