looking down for a moment
on a Thanksgiving morning;
a picture of eternity
frozen in shadow
a cut-out remaining
a silhouette of frost;
the old sugar maple
imprinted on the grass
only for these fleeting
moments
as the morning warms the
ground;
the November sun rising,
the church lawn becoming
wet
the shadow of the maple
still white on the ground;
the frost yet remaining
until the sun moves
around
a whisper in the shadow
in the cut-out of white;
God’s presence with us
in the shadow of night
God here with us
with the morning light;
a joy within us,
remaining,
the whole world bright
