She sat beside me in our car
a dark skirt, a white, hand-stitched
blouse
with bright Andean
characters, clay dolls;
Sunlight poured through the
windshield
making her violet shawl
drink the warmth into the wool
radiating color, a singular
band of the spectrum
clear, bright violet,
brilliant, alive
the outer band of the arc,
the bow
living color, wrapped around
her shoulders
to keep back the cold.
