I cause pain to my loved ones – v2

It is hard to admit, to be honest,
but I must be truthful
if I am to change
if I am to be different
I must confront my demons
my hurt, my anger
I cannot get past my struggles
if I do not face them
I must speak the words aloud
to bleed them of power

I cause pain to my loved ones
I cut my neighbors, my friends,
with my broken pieces, my shards,
my jagged, sharp edges
the sins I commit
the anger I speak aloud
cuts into flesh, into life,
when I refuse to forgive them
when I judge them too quickly
when I am not at peace inside myself

But my sharp edges
my broken pieces
are being softened, sanded,
smoothed by the water
the living water, the love
of our Lord, Christ Jesus
I am being turned, smoothed,
like broken glass in the ocean
at the water’s edge
in the sand, in the surf

I am being reformed
reshaped in the water, in God’s love,
softening the sharp edges
a little more in each turning
in the moving of the tides
my trials, my struggles
changed into something of beauty
something of worth, of value
God is restoring me, anew
into glorious life
