This is the same stand of
birches
between the north and south
US Route 95, the highway,
up here in northern Maine
the same stand of birches
drawing my eye, my attention,
early yesterday morning
on the way to Bangor, again
This is the same stand of
birches
I have noticed in winter
now summer birches
in the warming sun
the young maples growing
up in the glade, the opening
between the groomed way
running north and south
The bright young green
the white of the trunk
basking in the sun
as I drive by
drawing my eye, my attention
each time in passing
calling to me to see, to
notice,
their beauty, God’s
perfection
