“Wait ‘till next year”, his whisper,
His Mantra in a knowing tone -
He’d seen the magic -
Red Sox as World Champions
Sitting in bleacher seats
Train rides to Fenway Park, before;
When it was our game
Before Ruth wore stripes
Sixty plus years
Puritan patience,
Furrowed brow,
Wistful hope remaining
“Wait ‘till next year”, spoken
As a warm worn cloak
I still wear
Thirty plus years hence
