Made right by the Law

How sad, how foolish,
the ancient people
the Messiah they needed
the One foretold by God,
but they couldn’t see Him,
their deep wound within them
their need for a Savior
to be reconciled to God…
 
They looked outward
at the Roman oppression
they sought a king,
to reclaim David’s throne,
but they were convicted
as prophesied in scripture
they thought they were washed
by obeying the Law…

I am not ready – v3

I remember so clearly his sharing these words,
in memory, in prayer, welling up within him,
a word of caution for all of us gathered,
hearing these words of challenge,
of preparation, for what will be...
 
“Here it comes and I’m not ready”,
not ready to meet my Maker,
a balancing of the scales,
to have an accounting,
measuring my life…
 
Wishing there had been that there was more time,
All that I have done, my history, failings,
time for me to change, to turn,
to walk more closely to You,
the rest of my days, oh God…
 
These words that he shared, with us,
a measure of his witness, his truth,
of his daily walk, his struggles,
walking more humbly
each day of his life…

God spoke the world into existence – v2

God spoke the world into existence,
from the void, the universe,
all living things emerged.
 
God alone is omniscient, everywhere,
Creator of beauty, of precision
of life, of the natural laws.
 
God breathed life into humanity,
quickening, fire of the Spirit,
an eternal soul for our clay.
