He knew, he believed,
that the Lord would provide the lamb,
the sacrifice for him, that he would not
sacrifice his son, his only son
God did provide, for the grandfather,
father of our faith
A lamb was provided, sparing the first-born,
his only son.
Another time, centuries on
God provided, a lamb for the sacrifice
no other lamb would do, no other lamb worthy
an unblemished lamb, the Son of God,
his first-born, his only son
worthy to atone, to sacrifice
a burnt offering, sin offering
saving us all, even when our faith fails
by the father’s grace, we are saved
