Gulls perched on the pilings
a cormorant coursing low
toward the open sea
a breeze inland from the Atlantic
up on the bay, sitting by the pier
watching the boats, moored at rest,
the people, some busy, some quiet like me
a flotilla of bright kayaks slips silently by
bright blue beyond the glade of masts and rigging
caws of the gulls, the splash of minnows
soaking up the sun
sitting by the pier
