Held within my clay
the treasure of my faith
my belief in Christ
the coming of the King

The Advent season
waiting for our God
in the presence of the babe
in the King upon the clouds

The Spirit moving
guiding my feet
leading me to the manger
to the cross
out into the world

Within my clay

needing to be shared
with everyone on earth

We Proclaim Christ

Not ourselves, our worth,
we proclaim Christ
the Savior of the world
descended to the earth
to show us the way
going the way,
of the cross, of love
His sacrifice healing us
bringing us back to our God

Only Cracked Vessels

Our bodies, our lives
only cracked vessels
yet holding such treasure
the gifts of our Creator
in giving us His Son

Giving us new life
because He descended from heaven
Living while walking this earth
because our Savior rose again

Such a message, such power
living in cracked vessels
our bodies but the skin
the gloves in which He works

All the good we do
comes from the Lord
all our hope is in Him
in His gift is our reward

Flawed Pitchers

Chipped, cracked vessels
flawed pitchers of our bodies
yet holding the waters
the treasures of God’s gifts

We are to be emptied
to be filled by the living waters
to pour out a blessing
to all whom we meet

We are to be filled
by the loving word of God
to hear the ancient message
to trust in our Lord

We are to be emptied
though we hold the mark
the imprint of our Savior
beating with our hearts

Earthen Vessels

The treasures of Heaven
the love of God
God alive within us
indwelling in our hearts

Earthen vessels only
flawed and chipped, broken
yet holding something so precious
within us ever, the love of God

We are to be filled
to be given the living waters
to be poured out for others
that they in turn may be filled

A procession of vessels
earthen jars, clay bowls
each of us holding
a piece of our sovereign Lord

Near or far
giving to others
tithing our gifts

those close by us
offering hope

Her Bear Praying

As our pastor called us
if we wanted to come
coming to the altar rail
bringing him with her

Christmas Bear was with her
nestled between her arms
his arms on the altar rail
between her praying hands

Her bear praying
right beside of me
I wonder how many others noticed
the depth of her belief

Praying for the wife of her teacher
that she would be healed
sharing the prayer with her friend, her bear
praying right there with her.

In Our Clay Jars

In our clay jars
treasure beyond measure
the gift of salvation
beating in our hearts

Christ come down
God with us
our Messiah, Emmanuel
descending to the earth

Such a powerful message
of God’s endless love
grace enough to save us
even when we turn from Him

Calling us ever
out of the depth of His mercy
reclaiming us to Him
out of His steadfast love

Filled with Faith

Our earthy vessels
made with humble clay
filled with Faith
with the presence
of Almighty God

The truth of the Messiah
His coming to the earth
the babe in the manger
and the sacrifice on the cross

The vessel of my body
surely made of clay
though perhaps through me
others may see the way

For God fills willing vessels
humble to His call
filling us that we may be poured out
a blessing to all

We are to be willing vessels
that we may be poured out
no longer holding onto to ourselves
filled with God instead

Holding Such Treasure

Within my clay
the skin of my presence
my body, my spirit
holding onto such treasure
in humble, simple vessels
the earthen jars
of my human existence

Such treasure, beyond imagination
the gift of God’s grace
redeeming my very life
from the grave rising
because of His rising
from the depths of Sheol
to the heavens above

What is it that you carry
especially in this season
in the clay vessels of our bodies
out into the world

What is it that you carry
what is the treasure
what do you carry
when you go about your day

God has given us
the gift of our Savior
pouring out himself
as an offering on the cross

Coming to the earth
humble, as a child
walking in servanthood
at the calling of the Master

What is the treasure

How do you share the gift

The Way to Peace

The way to peace
through the gate of the Christ
His humble submission
His drinking the cup

Love come down
from heaven above
to show us true love
that peace would rain down

Going the way
the way of the cross
showing us love
in the forgiveness of sin

Submitting to God
to the Father’s plan
healing in His name
doing all that we can

Called to be Christ
to continue His work
love, in His name,
to bring peace to this earth

Lord Make Us Ready

Only You Lord
able to change us
we need to be open
but You are the healing agent

Lord make us ready
through the month of Advent
coming to Your stable
to Your manger bed

Food You give us
water to guide us
living, alive
flowing in our veins

We need this season
to turn from our wanderings
needing to turn
humbly back to You

Lord make us ready
for the coming Christ-child;

God is preparing us
for His coming
the season, the Advent
the break of a new day

We are His people
but the diaspora in the world
needing His guiding
to stay true to the Word

He is speaking to us
during these days of waiting
bringing us closer
if we listen for His call

Bringing us to Him

fulfillment of God’s promise

the love of the Spirit
breathed into us
falling down on us

Guiding us ever
His voice, His whisper
God with us ever
walking with us always
all of our days

Leading us to heaven

A Season that brings Joy

Joy in each moment
thinking about His coming
the power of that statement
the testament of God’s love

To sacrifice Himself
emptying out His power
becoming an earthen vessel
to hold the Creator’s love

Living among us
walk this earth
forgiving us on the cross
proof of our Savior’s grace

Leading us even now
in the pages of scripture
Living with us, indwelling

Like a People Triumphant

Like the people in Jerusalem
on the Sunday of the Palms
the King triumphant
entering their midst

They did not know
the rest of the story
the pain of His suffering
and His dying on the cross

The willing sacrifice
humble to God’s calling
going to the grave
rising in victory

Promising to return
in victory in triumphant
we waiting hopeful, expectant
for the coming of our King

Like a people triumphant
all of creation
singing praises and watching
for the return of the Lord

Joy to the world
ahead of His coming
the promise alone
giving us much to give thanks

Holy, holy,
our Lord, God Almighty
may we be joyful, ready
when our God comes to the earth

A Season that brings Hope

If we believe the promise
the truth of the scripture
our faith renewed
in the season of Advent
coming before the Christ-child
his sacred birth

A season that brings hope
in each retelling
the promise fulfilled
in his coming to the earth

His promise to come
again in victory
hopefully waiting
for our Savior to return

One Thing

A challenge in our hope
to focus our walk
in this season of joy
To shed one thing
that keeps us from God
that calls to us ever
in the way of the world.
To give something up
that depletes our lives
of the joy of Christ.

His Promise - 2

The promise of God
fulfilled in the Son
coming to earth
living as us

Taking on our stain
the weight of our sin
defeating death
rising again

His promise to come
back to the earth
to redeem us to Him
to give us new birth

What the Season of Advent is About

Each year called again
into the presence
of that singular moment
when Love came to the earth

What the season of Advent is about
to focus our thinking
coming before our God
reflecting on His great love

Reading the story
sharing in worship
the never ending love
of our Creator, our Lord

Giving himself
offering His life
washing us clean
from the depths of His love

Lived Among Us

Like an adult enrolled in a nursery
a Phi Beta Kappa
God descending
walking as a child

Love descending
grace without ending
aching for our
turning from Him

God coming
as a lowly child
emptied of what is holy
made with feet of clay

Yet pure, unblemished
a worthy sacrifice
going to the cross
to wash away our sin

Living as a servant
healing and teaching
training us to follow
the calling of our God

Guiding us to turn
from our sinful pasts
walking ever closer
to Almighty God

By His example going
on before us
the first-born of the resurrection
preparing a way for us to live

Descending from Heaven
our God as a child
coming to save
the world from itself

The failings of the leaders
the people of the Word
straying from His Law
the covenants of His Love
Christ come,
God incarnate,
descend from heaven
Born to teach us
the truth of God’s love
changing the Word
alive with us
the law infused with Love
Love going to the cross.

The Word Became Flesh

Christ alive, then as now
living in glory
descending to the earth
in utter humbleness

The Word became flesh
and lived among us
showing us the way of love
in humble servanthood

Obedient to the Master
loving His neighbor
forgiving us of sin
even on the cross

Christ, the Word made flesh
living as a man
teaching us how to love
as only our Savior can

Thinking about His whole life
to understand in part
the power of the moment
when Christ came down to earth

It is a time

The Advent seasons
the days watching the star
waiting for the Christ-child
the moment of His birth

It is a time
a time of reflection
contemplating what it means
the power of His sacrifice

Hope, Love came to earth
mercy came down
come to save the world
to bring us back to Him

God knew us then as now
powerless to save
needing the cross, the grave
to free us of our chains

Yes, it is a time
to humbly remember
and to look forward to his promise
to come again in glory

That Wondrous Day

The day that God came
dressed in human flesh
walking as a man
empty of holiness

Yet He is love
alive, with us
showing us the way
through the gate of sacrifice

Submitting to God
to the Master’s plan
humbling Himself
drinking of the cup

Obediently walking
turning to Jerusalem
healing us of our brokenness
by climbing the cross

All of it there
written in the word
the promise of the Lord
born on that wondrous day

Christ came into the world

Though He was in the beginning
the first-born of creation
that all came into being
after the Christ

Christ descending from heaven
Christ came into the world
to redeem us to Him
to heal our brokenness

He lives with us
within our beating hearts
He will come back for us
to gather His people in

We should be singing
in this Advent season
for God gave up immortality
that we may simply live

Only by His power
was sin and death vanquished
preparing a way for us
through the gate of the risen Christ

He Lives within Our Hearts

Remembering His Advent
the coming of the savior
descending from the heavens
that we may live again

Feeling Christ alive with us
living within our hearts
walking the dusty streets with us
walking the way of the cross

He lives now,
not just in heaven
that the kingdom would come
that peace would be on earth

He will return
in power and glory
gathering His children in
guiding us safely home
