Sticky Air – v6

Now suddenly summer
hot, humidity
a blanket, a cloth
heavy upon us, urgent
burning off the morning
a coolness of spring
weight in the air

Yet the sounds, the motion
as if through cotton batting
early today, trip to school,
waking of new morning
tamped down, slowed
as if by heavy, sticky air

The web of the morning clouds
lowered to the ground
falling, filling the valley
the way down the hill, to home,
as through an invisible blanket
our world ensnared, wrapped
in the waves of the heat
