Washing My Hands – v2

He took no responsibility,
no ownership, none,
for the injustice, the unholy death
of the innocent man

Absolving himself,
washing the stain from his hands
cleaning the tattoo, as if he could,
with mere soap and water

Washing away the killing
of righteousness, expedient
to temporary quell the rebellion,
to maintain order, for a moment

Sacrificing unblemished flesh
to the jackals in the courtyard
A curse brought upon himself
in trying to wash away the guilt
