these sad disciples
disillusioned, depressed;
giving up hope
leaving the rest
leaving Jerusalem
on the road to Emmaus;
going back home
not believing the resurrection
lost, unbelieving,
weighed down by dust;
only feeling pain
going to Emmaus
but not lost to Christ
walking there with Him;
revealed in the breaking
Christ as our host
revitalized, recharged,
touched by the living Christ;
by His revealing, revelation,
in the breaking of the bread
going back to Jerusalem
to the brotherhood, the Way;
into the Upper Room
joined by the Christ
