Do the people of the world
those who are yet strangers
see the face of Christ
when they look upon our visage
When they look at our hands
reaching to lift them
do they see the scars of the nails
the humble sacrifice of Christ
Are we truly his hands and feet
our bodies mere gloves
filled with God’s Spirit
offering them love
Do they see God’s grace
when they look upon us
sowing seeds of faith
raising them up

With His Calloused Hands
Not a member of the elite
never sitting, studying in the Temple
working, with his calloused hands
the nets, the water, this was his life
Beginning the church, this foundation
ordinary men, laity, common
spreading the word
the truth of God’s love
to the ends of the earth
