Darkness Around Us

We are to be light
commissioned to witness
to remain authentic
to be salt of the earth

The darkness around us
oppression and injustice
will turn bright as noonday
if we stand in the breach

Nothing permanent
save for the love of God
all else ephemeral
made from the dust

Yoked with our Savior
speaking out we must
to seek the best for our neighbor
the least, the last, the lost

The time is now apparent
the time is now
to seek justice for our neighbors
and compassion for one and all

We can stand together
If we have the presence
to submit to our master
and follow God’s will

Loving our neighbor
sharing God’s grace
loving them ever
warm in our embrace

Shining a light
piercing the darkness
none shall go hungry
none shall be left out
