The Same Great Love

Christ kneeling before each one
humble, as a servant
offering them water
washing the dust from their feet
the same Jesus
whom John spoke of in preparation
he was unworthy to untied
the thongs of this Jesus’ sandals
washing the feet of the disciples
the same great love
for the one whom he loved
the one who would run away, denying
the one who would betray him
on this very night
all of them washed by Jesus
out of God’s great love
