Nigh on a Woman

A little girl no more
though she is in there
that same smile, that smirk
the loving heart within her

Double the age
now sixteen, not eight
when I first met her
accepting me to her
a new man in her life

Watching her grow
seeing her mature,
living more independently
(sometimes more than I like)
spreading new wings

Readying herself for adulthood
soon enough taking flight
knowing she will be ready
to make a mark in this life
