We speak of them
as nails
what held Christ
to the cross
do we understate
man’s cruelty
by naming them
as this
More like spikes,
heavy, thick
that which would
be strong enough
something that
holds railroad ties
for the weight
of a human life
The thought of
spikes, not nails
driven into
Jesus, into Christ
the mall, the
club, the hammer
nailing him to
that tree
Not so dainty,
brutal,
these three
nails that held him
hanging from the
cross
at the Place of
the Skull
