Martha, in their mourning,
the loss of their brother
hearing Christ was coming
that the Master was near
taking offer her apron
setting down the platter
not needing to be the
hostess;
breaking with tradition,
not simply sitting shiva.
Martha, running to find Jesus
not waiting for Him to come
leaving the mourners in the
home
the others sitting shiva
tearing at their clothes
leaving them in their
prayers;
going out on the road
leaving her duties behind
her
to come before Jesus.
