if we earn a living

engrained in our culture
our worth in our work
our name in our profession
titles and positions
we say we earn a living
we thank God for our success
as if we are creators
makers ourselves
if we earn a living
if this is the language
we embrace, as a people,
if we enjoy success
from our labors
how do we need God
the Creator, Sustainer,
the Savior of our lives
what of the animals
the lilies of the field
God provides all
we will ever need.
