“Save yourself,”
they taunted Him;
but He could not,
not if He was to save us
to save us from ourselves.
Christ could not climb down,
though He was certainly able;
God stayed on our cross
Christ remained the servant
to give us life with Him.
“Come down from the cross,”
they jeered, they taunted,
mocking the Savior
the Messiah long-foretold
in ancient words of
scripture.
But He could not descend
(not the nails that held
Him).
Christ stayed on the cross
because this was His
purpose.
