Opening Prayer
Almighty
God, we thank you for the opportunity to gather this afternoon. We thank you
for the new season of spring that has finally come after a long winter. We
thank you for the season of Lent in which we have journeyed. And Lord, we thank
you for the faithful service of one of your children, Reggie Hanson, who went
home to glory on Tuesday. We include his family and friends in our prayer now
as his celebration of life this afternoon at the Pentecost Church.
Lord, we
thank you for Holy Week that is about to begin on Sunday with Palm Sunday. We
rejoice with those who were joyful that the Messiah had come and we grieve
along with Christ’s loved ones who heard the crowd shout “Crucify Him!” on
Friday. We most especially thank you and praise you our brother and our
Redeemer, the Risen Lord Jesus Christ who chose to drink of the cup and to
climb our cross to defeat sin forever. We rejoice that death was not the final
word. We have victory in Jesus because He arose on Easter morning!
Amen!
