journeying with Jesus,
in silence walking,
coursing through the city
that Passover night
a night like no Passover
since that night in Egypt.
a new blood covenant
spoken that night, going,
from the upper room
through the sleeping city
where David had ruled
over God’s people.
journeying in silence
walking in sorrow
the betrayer fled into the night
climbing the Mount of Olives
to pray in the garden, Gethsemane
above the city walls.
