the challenge of Lent – v3

we are so separated from Jesus
from that time, that place,
from the way of the cross
the way to salvation
through His example, His life
the world so different
we truly are lost

nothing of the world
the way of the flesh
only the cross,
the hope for us
the way of Jesus
the way He showed for us
as He walked on the earth

the challenge of Lent,
why we slow down,
to feel the weight of these days
to put the pieces together,
to breathe the smoke of the burning palms
to lay our lives down, to sacrifice,
as Christ did before us

in these days walking, a journey,
trying to connect with that time
to walk barefoot on these stones,
to hear the lash and to see His blood spilled;
To truly know that this was not cheap grace
To truly know how much this grace cost
when Christ died for us.
