the roots of the giant redwoods
not deep, like you might imagine;
vulnerable to the wind,
their roots near the surface.
they are intertwined with their neighbors
stronger cords together;
like interlocked arms, joined
hands on another’s forearm.
we are stronger together, united,
in service to one another;
bound with Jesus,
we are alive in the vine.
