following invisible snail
trails
hidden grooves in the carpet;
walking the same steps
each week, in coming together.
like a one-room schoolhouse,
with each seat already
numbered,
many families represented
each child known by name.
used to the seats we sit in
in the sanctuary, assigned
places,
even when others are missing
sitting in the same pews.
