Are we family

with warts and scars
differences of experience
of life choices
we struggle to find
common purpose,
one hope together
we ask, “Are we family?”,
but if we are honest
we are no better, no worse,
than our biological families
tested and torn
as we journey in life
but we cling to family
to places of sanctuary
where we are loved
warts, scars and all
