his body slumped – v2

He stood there erect

sure of his station, solemn,

calm in the midst of the storm

the chaos on the screen

as the twin towers fell

His body slumped, deflated

standing there beside me

as we  saw the image

as the pictures flashed

on the flickering screen

Now, he spoke knowingly

in that specific moment

that people he had known

his friends, his colleagues

were there in that rubble
