I heard this title
to this poem, to these words
clearly without a doubt,
“I lay down my life”
as you shared the words of the Spirit
on the pages of the sermon
you were called to share,
“I lay down my life.”
But here I sit, hesitant,
to write down these words
to live out the calling of Christ,
“I lay down my life”,
to share His message
to stand in the breach
to shine in the darkness,
“Yes, I lay down my life.”
