a whole generation, our children,
who have all been trained
for an active shooter in
their midst
lock-down drills a part of
their school days
they all have been born
after Columbine
under the lengthening shadow
of the gun, the chaos, the
tragedy,
the bleakness of this world
they have no memory, no
sense,
of a time before Columbine,
Parkland,
before the many mass
shootings
the endless partisan debates
they all have been targeted,
trained,
learning different lessons than
we were taught
active shooters/ lock-down
drills
all a part of their school
days
