Her Lady Slipper – v3

Maybe Georgia had something right
in her paintings of living flowers;
Something human, evocative,
almost erotic, of living flesh,
the suppleness of the petals.

Lady slipper illumined, shining
out in the wood, in the spring morning light,
the flesh of her skin engorged, alive;
Maybe Georgia was honest
in her painting of flowers.

The tiny laces, the booty of down
in the flesh of pink, of skin,
something drawing us, enticing;
Something erotic, sensuous,
in the shape of Georgia’s flowers.

Iris – v2

What is it about irises
in the garden, along the roadside,
whether blue flag or yellow,
deep purple, red with white;
why do they catch our attention, the imagination
more than lesser blooms?

A certain allure
that Georgia O’Keeffe didn’t taint
a beauty that draws us in
to ponder and marvel on
a delicacy that is real;
but a perennial that wears well
in the seasons in New England.

Bitter cold and short summers
a herald for the Spring
whether in bog or flower bed
a gift of the Creator
a beauty to behold.
