So much to lose,
station, power, all that he was
wealth, possession
defining the rich man
A challenge to trust
to sell all his possessions
to give the wealth away
and follow in faith
Liberation theology,
in the words of the Christ
turning his world
upside down
To be saved, to enter the kingdom
righting the wrongs of the world
through the voluntary impoverishment
the humbling of the self
Radical words, of the master before him
sorrowfully he turned and walked away
For he could not give up his station, his power
he could not let go and walk away
How sad for the rich man
tied to the world’s values
his garners full, his silos bursting
He will rue that fateful day
