Being For Us

To understand the distinction
the wonder of Christmas
the meaning of the coming
the advent of Christ

God for us, as a parent,
not merely with us
in the story of the Christ
of the Emmanuel

Not even within us
what we know of the Spirit
living within
each believer’s heart

It is the love of the parent
the creator, sustainer
our savior, our father
our loving God

There like a parent,
loving us ever
there when we stumble
even when we rebel

Hoping for our best
no matter what our steps
there when we fall
forgiving us for all

The prayer for the children
the one the Lord taught us
falling to our knees
to thank and to remember God

Our cries back to the father
our loving creator
asking for provision
all of our days

Closing the circle,
as with the prodigal child
only as a servant
returning back home

But our creator, sustainer
our savior, our brother
waiting already
right by our side
