Waiting
with other strangers
for the word to come
The doctor’s face
her smile, telling me
all had gone well
Waiting
with the others
that I could see her
Her face
her hand
resting in my own
Waiting
with her
now in her room
Time
to rest and heal
no longer alone
Waiting
until I had to leave
go home to the girls
Same as before
back at home
except she was not there
Waiting
to return to her
unable to sleep
