Did the rock begin to cry
as he head the cock crow
in the birthing of Good Friday
as he denied the Christ
Did he see the tears of Jesus
as he turned away
Christ’s words foretelling
his feet of clay
Did he trip, did he fall
running from the temple courts
did he begin to realize
the pain his words wrought
