Sent to capture Jesus
the guards of the Temple
in the cover of darkness
in secret, at night;
They went as they were sent
to capture the rebel,
who claimed the mantle,
who questioned their power
Ingrained into this people
chosen people of God
a nation formed around the promise
the covenant with God;
Their instinctive response worthy
pulling back from their action,
Christ claiming the ancient name
the One, our sovereign
The soldiers fell back from their advance
they fell to the ground as Abram had
only His words calling to them
faithful to God’s plan;
Only by Christ’s action
bound, arrested that night
fulfilling all prophecy
giving them the Lamb
